Siding installation cost will typically run $1.00 – $6.00 per sq. ft. depending on the materials used and how complex or intricate the project. We will run through the different materials and discuss project details that will affect installation costs.
Siding Installation Cost Basics
There are many factors that affect siding installation cost. The material or type of cladding used will certainly affect pricing. Additional factors include whether the contractor has to remove the existing siding, any demo work necessary, how many windows or cuts need to be made to hang the boards, the time of year the work is performed (summer time is high season and therefore is more expensive) and the amount of additional materials needed (trim, fascia, soffits, gable vents, inside and outside corner posts, j channels).
Vinyl Siding Installation Cost
Install Pricing: $1 – $2 psf
Homeowners should expect to pay between $1 – $2 per sq. ft. for vinyl siding. This is on the lower end of the spectrum and will cost $100 to $200 per square. The price for a 2000 sq. ft. project would range from $2,000 to $4,000.
Hardiplank & Fiber Cement
Install Pricing: $2 – $4 psf
Homeowners can expect to spend $2 to $4 psf for either Hardiplank (Hardie Board), which is a type of fiber cement. The increase in cost is due to several factors, including the need to prime and/or paint the boards, the weight of the boards themselves (more labor is required to hang them) and the specialized tool need to cut the panels. The price for a 2000 sq. ft. project would range from $4,000 to $8,000 for the install.
Aluminum
Install Pricing: $2 – $3 psf
Homeowners can expect to spend $2 to $3 psf for aluminum cladding. The installation is more labor intensive than with vinyl, although less difficult than for a fiber cement. The price for a 2000 sq. ft. project would range from $4,000 to $6,000 for the install.
